Adopt-A-Spot

Do you like to walk?   Would you like to influence your children or grandchildren by teaching them a ‘life-long’ habit?   

If so, then KVCB has the program for you!

Adopt-A-Spot is a litter prevention and beautification program organized by Keep Vermilion County Beautiful (KVCB) and the city of Danville’s PRIDE Grows.

A “Spot” can be your neighborhood, your schoolyard, a roadside, a park, a vacant lot, a traffic corner or any spot that you are interested in keeping litter-free.

Maintenance of your “Spot” requires a commitment from you or your group to pick up litter at least 3 times a year.  An email will be sent to you or your group monthly asking for litter data:

i.e. number of bags collected, number of walkers and time spent on clean-up.

The benefits to you and others include:

  • the proud feeling of adopting a Spot
  • the beauty added to the area
  • the positive impact on our community

FUN FACT!

From July 1, thru October 30, 2014, 303 Adopt A Spot volunteers picked up 385 bags of litter totaling 7,700 pounds from 130 events. If these 303 volunteers were paid at the national average of $22.55 per hour to pick up litter at these 130 events – the cost to  the city/village/ township would be $22,573.

So for every $1 spent for litter pick up, the return on these  KVCB Adopt A Spot volunteers returned to Vermilion County was $148 to $1.
